Yesterday was Easter and I trust that you had a wonderful day celebrating the resurrection of our Lord Jesus. When I was young, and learning about Easter, I must admit that I didn’t fully understand all that it meant. It was probably more about all the candy! But later when I began to really study the Bible and listen to good teachings it began to make sense to me.
Even though I attended church as a child I don’t remember being taught that ALL mankind had a sin nature because of Adam’s disobedience in the Garden of Eden. It was years later that I learned what it really meant to be saved with Salvation in accepting Jesus as Savior, I was a new creation. Hallelujah! (2 Corinthians 5:17) I learned that I didn’t have to be depressed or timid or shy because God had given me a new nature: His! Second Timothy 1:17 tells us that “God has not given us the spirit of fear, but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind”. To me this is the greatest aspect of Easter, knowing I’m made in the image of God, having the authority in the Name of Jesus and the Word of God -the Bible – to rule my life and combat the attacks of the devil, the enemy of God.
Jesus died on the Cross on Good Friday – good because He took our sins and paid the penalty of our sins so we can have right-standing with God. Right-standing means to be righteous. Yes, I’m righteous, and so is every born-again Christian! Righteousness has to do with our position in Christ. According to Romans 8:17 we are heirs of God and joint-heirs with Jesus.
John 1:12 tells us that as many as receive Jesus, He gives them the power to become the sons (child) of God who believe in His name.
Romans 8:14 teaches, that as many as are led by the Spirit of God, they are the sons of God.
1 John 3:1 explains that the love of the Father has been bestowed upon us, that we should be called the sons (children) of God.
2 Corinthians 5:21. In Him (Jesus) we are made the righteousness of God.
This is what Easter-the Resurrection of Jesus means: that we now have the choice to become a child of the Most-High God. I made that choice years ago, and pray that you have made that choice too.
What a mighty God we serve!
