God is faithful. He is constant and unchanging. A faithful person is loyal; a person you can trust; one who keeps his word. To be loyal means to be constant and steadfast, and unchanging. Hebrews 13:8 tells us that God is the same yesterday, and today, and forever, so whatever God has said, He is still saying.
I think the reason so many have problems believing God, is the time-factor involved between when they begin to pray and believe and when the answer to that prayer is manifested. So much of our lives today are based on instant gratification that it’s hard to think that God – being all powerful – could take so long. Now don’t laugh at me like that, I’m sure you have had that same thought. We must always remember that God’s timetable may not be the same as ours, but His timetable will always come to pass. His timetable is always the right one.
Actually, I believe that it’s quite possible that our impatience can delays His answers coming to us. I think God is more interested in changing us within, to be more like Him, than always changing our circumstances. He wants us to be strong in our faith. So, if in our waiting we are actually looking for Him He will strengthen us, and we will not be weary, nor will we faint. (Isaiah 40:31) We learn from Psalm 37:9 that it is those that wait upon the Lord who shall inherit the earth. This type of waiting is keeping our eyes and mind on Him; it is not waiting with worry.
So, is God all these things: faithful, loyal, trustworthy, unchanging, steadfast and constant? Yes, He is. We must settle in our heart that God is all those and much more. If God has promised something, He is faithful to bring it to pass. It just might be good for us to realize, learn, and understand, that God is faithful to His Word before He is faithful to us. In other words, He will stay true to His Word before He answers one of our wimpy-cry-like-a-baby-complaining-prays. If you see yourself in that sentence, pull yourself out by the Word of God; repent, and then pray according to His Word which He can and will be faithful to! Just a thought you might want to think about.
It is when we believe in Him and put our trust in Him that He will hear and answer our prayers – faithfully. (1 Chronicles 5:20, 1 John 5:14-15)
Lots of times when I’m praying or talking with someone, I hear myself say, “God’s Word is true and He is true to His Word”. This simply means that God confirms what He says; He is faithful to His Word.
I challenge you this week to think back over your life and remember the times God has been faithful to you and set your heart to praise Him. Then also, spend some time each day looking for God’s faithfulness to you in your life. Keeping our focus on Jesus and His faithfulness will help to keep our faith strong.
Deuteronomy 7:9, therefore know that the Lord your God, He is God, the faithful God who keeps covenant and mercy for a thousand generations with those who love Him and keep His commandments.
Psalm 89:8, O Lord God of hosts, who is mighty like you, O Lord? Your faithfulness also surrounds You.
Psalm 92:1, Praise to the Lord for His love and faithfulness.
1 Corinthians 1:9, God is faithful, by whom you were called into the fellowship of His Son, Jesus Christ our Lord.
2 Thessalonians 3:3, but the Lord is faithful, who will establish you and guard you from the evil one.
1 John 1:9, if we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.
